The Uppsala ATLAS group is part of the High Energy Physics group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and currently consists of three faculty members, one post-doctor and three graduate students. http://www4.tsl.uu.se/~Atlas/index.html.
We are looking for an excellent and highly motivated students with an interest in experimental physics and know-how in data analysis programs (eg C + + and root). The PhD student will work on the physical analysis of ATLAS data and distributed to the development of analysis tools on the network needed for this purpose.
The PhD position is funded for four years, extendible to a maximum of five years including department duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching). After more than 20 years of planning and accumulation of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva is now in operation for one year, marks a very exciting program detailed investigations microcosm. The idea is that the LHC will run almost continuously during 2011 and 2012, increased gradually with a brightness to allow collected enough data to current theoretical expectations, the discovery of the Higgs boson and supersymmetric particles. You are welcome to submit your application no later than April 29, 2011
